CPR & First Aid
CPR and First Aid certifications are required trainings that help Source of Hope providers develop the skills needed to respond safely and appropriately during an emergency.
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) teaches lifesaving techniques used when a person stops breathing or their heart stops beating.
First Aid teaches providers how to respond to injuries, accidents, and illnesses and provide appropriate care until professional medical assistance is available. Training also covers important safety procedures to follow during an emergency.
Certification Requirements
As required by DDD, providers must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications. CPR and First Aid certifications are valid for two (2) years and must be renewed before expiration.
Source of Hope does not accept certifications completed entirely online without the required in-person, hands-on skills assessment. If the instructional portion of the course is completed online, the provider must also successfully complete the required hands-on skills assessment for the certification to be accepted.
Training & Renewal
New Providers: Source of Hope will schedule the required CPR and First Aid training as part of the onboarding process.
Current Providers: Source of Hope monitors certification expiration dates. Before a provider's CPR or First Aid certification expires, Source of Hope will notify the provider and schedule renewal training.
Please do not complete an online-only CPR or First Aid course independently, as it may not meet certification requirements.
Source of Hope is committed to keeping our providers trained, prepared, and ready to respond when it matters most.
Article 9
All Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) providing services through the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) are required to complete Article 9 Training.
Article 9 Training provides essential information about member rights, appropriate support practices, and prohibited practices when serving individuals with developmental disabilities. Understanding and following these requirements helps providers protect member rights, maintain safety and dignity, and remain compliant with DDD standards.
Training, Certification & Renewal
Article 9 Training may be completed in person or through a live, instructor-led Zoom session.
Certification Validity: Article 9 certification is valid for two (2) years. Providers must maintain a current certification while providing applicable services.
New Providers: Source of Hope will schedule the required Article 9 Training as part of the onboarding process.
Current Providers: Source of Hope monitors certification expiration dates. Before a provider's Article 9 certification expires, the provider will be notified and scheduled for renewal training.
Source of Hope coordinates Article 9 training for our providers to help ensure certifications remain current and providers continue to meet applicable DDD requirements
DCW 1 Fundamentals & DCW 2 Developmental Disabilities
Direct Care Workers (DCWs) who provide Attendant Care (ATC) services are required to complete DCW Level I: Fundamentals and, when applicable, DCW Level II: Developmental Disabilities training.
These trainings provide essential knowledge and skills to help providers deliver safe, respectful, and quality care to the individuals they support. Required DCW training and competency requirements must be successfully completed within the applicable timeframe.
Training & Renewal
New Providers: Source of Hope will coordinate and schedule required DCW training as part of the onboarding process.
Current Providers: Source of Hope monitors certification expiration dates. When a provider's certification is due for renewal or has expired, the provider will be notified and scheduled for the appropriate training.

Abuse and Neglect
Abuse, Neglect & Exploitation training is an important requirement for applicable Direct Care Workers providing Home and Community-Based Services through Source of Hope.
The training helps providers learn how to recognize signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation, understand their responsibilities, and take appropriate action when abuse or neglect is suspected. Arizona's DCW competencies specifically include recognizing physical, behavioral, and environmental warning signs and understanding how to report suspected abuse or neglect. AHCCCS.
Why Is This Training Required?
AHCCCS and DDD establish training and qualification requirements to help ensure individuals receiving publicly funded HCBS services are supported by providers who are qualified, knowledgeable, and prepared to provide safe care. Arizona's HCBS certification program specifically states that certification helps ensure direct-care providers meet required qualifications and are prepared to support individuals with developmental disabilities. Arizona Department of Economic Security
Abuse, Neglect & Exploitation training is particularly important because it helps providers:
-
Recognize possible signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
-
Understand their responsibility to protect members' health, safety, rights, and dignity.
-
Know how and when to report concerns or suspected mistreatment.
-
Understand the importance of accountability when serving vulnerable individuals.
Training & Renewal
New Providers: Source of Hope will coordinate required Abuse, Neglect & Exploitation training as part of the provider's onboarding and training process.
Current Providers: Source of Hope monitors applicable training requirements. When retraining or renewal is required, providers will be notified and scheduled for the appropriate training.
